Who should have this test?

Anyone who has had unprotected sexual intercourse should have a Chlamydia Test. This test is suitable for both men and women who are concerned that they may have caught Chlamydia from unprotected vaginal intercourse, and men who have given unprotected anal intercourse. Chlamydia is one of the most common STIs and can be easily spread. It is important to get tested regularly. It often has no symptoms, so the only way to know whether you have Chlamydia is to get tested.

How long should I wait until I have the test?

You should wait at least fourteen days since any incident that you are concerned about before having this test.

What will happen at my appointment?

At your appointment, your clinician will confirm the test or tests that you have chosen. They will ask you if you have any questions, and do their best to answer them. Your instant Chlamydia test requires a swab sample to run. For women, this should be from your vagina. For men, this should be from your urethra. You may collect the sample yourself if you would prefer. Your clinician will then process your sample and run your test.

How long do results take?

Chlamydia results will be ready in around 10 minutes. A control line will appear on the test device when the test has run. If two lines appear then the test is positive, if one line appears then the test is negative.

What happens if I test positive?

If you do test positive, Better2Know will help you. Chlamydia can be cured with antibiotics. We would suggest that you get a prescription from your Better2Know doctor. You should refrain from sexual intercourse for seven days after you have completed your treatment. There is no follow up testing or treatment suggested for Chlamydia.
